China Suspends Planned Additional Tariffs on Certain US Products and Vehicles

The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council issued an announcement on 15 December 2019 that China has suspended the planned additional tariffs on some US products to be implemented at 12:01pm on 15 December 2019. The suspension covers the 10%and 5% additional tariffs, respectively, on the imported products originated from the US, according to the Commission. Besides, China will continue to suspend its additional tariffs on US-origin vehicles and auto parts.

The decisions were made to implement the results of recent trade talks between China and the US and in accordance with China's laws and regulations on customs, foreign trade and tariffs as well as the basic principles of international laws. The Commission also said that other additional tariff measures will continue to be implemented as stipulated and work on tax exemptions for imports from the US will continue to proceed.
