China’s Average Consumer Import Tariff Set to Fall From 17.3% to 7.7%
China’s average import tariff rate on consumer goods is set for a dramatic drop from 17.3% to just 7.7% from 1 December this year. The fall comes as a consequence of tariff reductions on 187 product categories, including foodstuffs, health supplements, pharmaceuticals, household chemicals, clothing, footwear, headgear, household equipment, cultural / recreational supplies and daily use grocery products. According to a circular issued by the State Council Customs Tariff Commission, the levy reduction was triggered by the surge in demand for imported consumer items over the last two years.
