China to Adopt New Imported Medicinal Materials Requirements as of 2020

Following approval from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), The Measures for the Administration of Imported Medicinal Materials will take effect on 1 January 2020.

Among its key points are the following:

  • Encouraging the Import of Medicinal Materials
    The existing stipulation that authorised boundary control points can only import medicinal materials produced in adjacent countries / territories is to be rescinded
  • Enforcement of Medicinal Materials Standards
    All imported medicinal materials applying must comply with China’s relevant national standards. Should no appropriate national standard apply, said materials must comply with the relevant standards of the importing province / autonomous region
