Four-Point Risk Classification Set to be Trialled for Tianjin Food Businesses
The level of risk presented by any food-related business in the Tianjin area is, in future, to be rated on a four-point scale, ranging from low to high. The move was outlined in the Measures of the Tianjin Municipality for the Management of Food Business Based on Risk Classifications (Trial Implementation), which came into effect as of 1 July 2017 and is expected to remain in force for the next five years.
The Measures apply to all operators of food-related businesses, including all vendors of foodstuffs and edible agricultural products, operators of centralised trading markets, operators of third-party platforms for online food trading and providers of storage facilities for edible agricultural products. Over the next 12 months, the Market Supervision Bureau will adjust the level of risk represented by individual food business operators on the basis of routine inspections, spot checks and the examination of records related to food safety supervision and management. Any business deemed to represent a high risk will then be subject to enhanced supervision in the following year.
