Guangdong Greenlights Online Health Consultations and Digital Prescriptions

Guangdong-based healthcare providers are to be allowed to provide online follow-up consultations to patients with certain everyday ailments or specified chronic conditions, while also being permitted to provide digital prescriptions for any required medicines. These new entitlements were recently announced by the Guangdong Provincial Government and form part of its Action Plan for Promoting the Development of Internet Plus Health Care (2018-2020).

In additional moves, support is to be given to any health care institution or other appropriately-qualified third-party looking to establish online information platforms with a focus on telemedicine, health consultation or health management. Overall, the province’s initiative is in line with national moves to ensure all Class A tertiary hospitals are operating an Internet Plus Health Care facility by 2020.
