Guangzhou to Phase Down Employee Public Medical Insurance Premiums

The public medical insurance premium rates relating to Guangzhou-based employees are to be reduced incrementally over the next three years. The move, implemented by the Guangzhou Healthcare Security Bureau and the Guangzhou Financial Service Office, is intended to lower the current payment burden on both enterprises and employees on flexible employment arrangement. In the initial stages, the employee public medical insurance premium rate is to be reduced to 5.5% for employers and to 7.5% for individuals employed on flexible arrangement, those entitled to deferred pensions and those unemployed.

The Circular will take effect as of 1 July this year and will remain in force until 30 June 2022.
