Hong Kong and Macau Research Bodies Urged to Bid for Central Government Funding

Hong Kong and Macau-based research establishments, as well as universities / colleges, have been urged to fully take advantage of the funding opportunities offered by the central government’s Science and Technology Programme. The call came as part of a recent announcement by the Ministry of Science and Technology, which specified the options available and the relevant application procedures:

  • Hong Kong or Macau-based higher education institutions and research establishments may competitively tender for funding to undertake any project within the remit of the Science and Technology Programme
  • These Hong Kong and Macau institutions, in association with an appropriate mainland-based partner, may also take the lead or play a more subsidiary role in any application to undertake a Science and Technology Programme approved project. They may additionally apply for funding for any related scientific research activities conducted in either Hong Kong or Macau
  • An approved list of the Hong Kong / Macau establishments eligible to apply for funding under the terms of the Science and Technology Programme will be announced following comprehensive consultation with the Technology Co-operation Committees overseeing mainland-Hong Kong and mainland-Macau joint undertakings
