Ministry of Justice Strengthens Administration of Judicial Expertise Fee Collection

In accordance with the decision to reform the administration of judicial expertise made at the 4th Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, the General Office of the Ministry of Justice recently issued its Circular on Further Strengthening the Administration of Judicial Expertise Fee Collection (see details in Chinese) to push forward this reform and resolve the issue of “exorbitant expertise fees” which has aroused widespread public concern.

The Circular states that all localities must set the standards for charging judicial expertise fees in a reasonable manner in accordance with the requirements set out in the Circular of the General Office of the Ministry of Justice on Work Concerning the Fixing of Standards for Charging Judicial Expertise Fees (Sibantong No. 6 [2016]) when drawing up fee charging standards and must strictly crack down on the indiscriminate charging of fees.

Up to March 2017, 15 provinces and municipalities have announced their method for the administration of judicial expertise and fee charging standards. See website of Ministry of Justice for details in Chinese.
