New Rules for Releasing Games Online

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) issued on 2 June its Circular on the Administration of Mobile Game Publishing Service (for details in Chinese, please see http://www.sapprft.gov.cn/sapprft/contents/6588/298011.shtml), which will take effect  on 1 July 2016. After its implementation, the online publication and operation of mobile games not approved by SAPPRFT will be prohibited.

The Circular puts forward requirements for releasing updates of existing mobile games, pointing out that new updates must undergo examination and approval formalities once more.

New updates of previously approved mobile games and their teasers (referring to products with obvious changes in the scenario, mission, topography, character personality, role characteristics and interactive features of the games and bearing titles that clearly show that they are updates of existing games, such as "New XX", or a number suffix, such as "XX 2") shall be deemed as new works and required to undergo examination and approval procedures appropriate to their classification once again according to this Circular.
