Shenzhen Implements National Electric Bicycle Standards

All electric bicycles sold or produced within Shenzhen’s city boundaries must now comply with the relevant national standards, according to a recent announcement by the municipal Supervision and Regulation Bureau.

In specific terms, this entails:

  • Strict compliance with the Technical Standards for the Safety of Electric Bicycles (GB 17761-2018) as adopted on a national basis from 15 April this year. Any electric bicycles that fail to meet the specified requirements may no longer be manufactured or sold in Shenzhen
  • All electric bicycles must be CCC-certified, with manufacturers obliged to secure the specified approvals with regard to materials, production processes and assembly

Full details can be found in the Shenzhen Municipality’s Market Supervision and Regulation Bureau’s 1 August announcement (Shen Shi Jian Gong Gao No. 14 [2019]).
