Three-Year Action Plan for Expanding and Upgrading Information Consumption

In conjunction with the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently issued the Circular on Issuing the Three-Year Action Plan for Expanding and Upgrading Information Consumption (2018-2022) in a bid to promote the development of information consumption in depth and breadth. The objective of the Plan is to achieve a market value of RMB6 trillion in information consumption, significantly enhance the guiding role of information technology in consumption sectors, achieve an output value of RMB15 trillion in relevant sectors, and extend optical fibre and 4G broadband network coverage to 98% of administrative villages by 2020. The major actions outlined in the Plan include improving the quality of the supply system for new types of information products, making use of technologies such as Internet-of-Things, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence to make electronic products more intelligent, improving the quality of the mid-to-high-end supply system for mobile phones, computers, colour TVs, hi-fi systems and other devices, promoting the R&D and commercialisation of intelligent wearable devices, virtual/augmented reality devices, ultra-high-definition equipment, consumer drones and other products, and accelerating the application and popularisation of ultra-high-definition video cameras in different trades and professions.
