Argentina Extends Deadline to Comply with Product Certification Requirements for Aluminium Tubes
Argentina recently modified the deadline to comply with the product certification provisions of the quality and safety standards for flexible aluminium tubes that were unveiled in September 2018. As previously reported, subject merchandise will be required to comply with the provisions of standard IRAM 6768 and, in certain instances, it may also be made in accordance with certain provisions of standard uneen 570. Subject merchandise must be labelled with any information required by IRAM 6768 as well as the name and/or brand of the producer and/or importer, the country of origin, and a safety seal issued in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Key amendments to the product certification provisions of the standards include the following.
- Domestic producers and importers must ensure compliance with the standards by means of a sworn declaration accompanied by a test report prepared by an ISO/IEC 17.025-compliant third-party or plant laboratory, and subsequently through a product certification issued by a recognised certification body. Previously, a product certification was required from the onset.
- Sworn declarations are being required since 13 March 2019. Proof that the product certification process has been initiated must be provided from 13 September 2019 and product certificates issued by a recognised certification body must be provided from 13 March 2020.
Subject merchandise must undergo conformity assessment in accordance with (i) certification System 4, which is based on type testing and checking of samples taken from the market and/or the production site; (ii) certification System 5, which is based on an evaluation of the manufacturer’s quality management system and the testing of samples taken from the production line; or (iii) certification System 7, which requires every imported lot to be tested to ensure regulatory compliance.
