Argentina Temporarily Suspends VAT on Certain Food Products

The Argentinean government has issued a regulation temporarily suspending the application of the value-added tax on the following food products when sold to the final consumer: sunflower, corn and mixed oils; rice; sugar; canned fruit, vegetable and legume products; cornmeal; wheat flour; eggs; whole or skim fluid milk with additives; bread; ground bread and bread batter; dried pasta; yerba mate, cooked mate and tea; and whole or skim yoghourt. This measure will be in place through the end of the year in an effort to address supply shortages and provide economic relief to the Argentinean population.
