Argentina Unveils Framework Standards for Pressure Products

Argentina recently established a regulatory framework for the adoption of specific technical requirements for products subject to pressure with or without fire that are sold domestically. While no specific new standards are being adopted at this time, the Argentinean government intends to issue such technical standards at some point in the future to establish precise requirements and conformity assessment procedures for covered products. Such standards must comply with certain basic principles aimed at minimising risks, providing protective measures, and providing risk reduction information to users. Among other things, any specific standards will set forth provisions and requirements in the areas of design, manufacture, selection of materials and conformity assessment.

Products covered by the framework technical requirements include (i) aerosol sprays; (ii) faucet implements for household use; (iii) equipment intended for the operation of vehicles; (iv) transformers and rotary machines; (v) aircraft, vessels and equipment regulated by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code and the Convention on International Civil Aviation; (vi) pressure equipment consisting of a flexible cover (e.g., tyres, air mattresses, balls, inflatable boats); (vii) portable pressure vessels intended for transport and distribution; (viii) radiators and pipes in hot water heating systems; (ix) fire extinguishers; (x) containers with a maximum admissible pressure not exceeding one bar; (xi) measuring instruments incorporated in pressure equipment; and (xii) pressure vessels that can be classified as pressure containers that are an integral part of alternative or rotating mechanical device components (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines, motor generators, and hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders) in which the primary consideration is derived from the functional requirements of the device.
