Brazil Considering Various Duty Modifications

Brazil is seeking input from interested parties by 18 January on several proposed changes to the Mercosur common external tariff, including the following.

  • Palm kernel oil classified under NCM 1513.29.10 – duty would fall from 10 percent to two percent.
  • Potassium fluoride classified under new tariff breakout NCM 2826.90.30 – duty would decline from 10 percent to two percent.
  • Menadione nicotinamide bisulphite classified under new tariff breakout 2933.39.95 – duty would rise from two percent to 12 percent.
  • Articles for testing, biological research and manufacture of biologically inert molecules classified under new tariff breakout NCM 3926.90.41 – duty would fall from 18 percent to two percent.
  • Industrial grade synthetic styrene butadiene rubber (SBS) classified under new tariff breakout NCM 4002.19.13 – duty would decline from 12 percent to two percent.
  • 1,2-syndiotactic polybutadiene rubber classified under new tariff breakout NCM 4002.20.20 – duty would be reduced from 12 percent to two percent.
  • Certain other paper in rolls of the kind used for the support of coated abrasives, classified under new tariff breakout NCM 4811.90.20 – duty would be reduced from 12 percent to two percent.
  • Tire cord fabric of high tenacity polyester yarn classified under NCM 5902.20.00 – duty would fall from 16 percent to two percent.
  • Certain polyester fabric in rolls, of the kind used for the support of coated abrasives, classified under new tariff breakout NCM 5911.90.10 – duty would fall from 26 percent to two percent.
  • Ski-boots, cross-country ski footwear and snowboard boots classified under NCM 6403.12.00 – duty would decline from 20 percent to two percent.
  • Toughened (tempered) safety glass of a size and shape suitable for incorporation in front-loading washing machines classified under NCM 7007.19.10 – duty would drop from 12 percent to two percent.
  • Drill bits classified under new tariff breakout NCM 8207.19.10 – duty would decline from 18 percent to two percent.
  • Scissors classified under NCM 8467.29.10 – duty would drop from 20 percent to two percent.
  • Type LR14 and type LR20 alkaline batteries classified under new tariff breakouts NCM 8506.10.11 and 8506.10.12 – duty would be lowered from 16 percent to two percent.
  • Certain switches classified under new tariff breakout NCM 8535.90.10 – duty would be lowered from 16 percent to two percent. 
  • Free wheel pinions classified under NCM 8714.93.20 – duty would drop from 16 percent to two percent.
  • Gear shifters classified under NCM 8714.99.10 – duty would fall from 16 percent to two percent.
  • One-step cartilage regenerative implants classified under new tariff breakout NCM 9021.10.11 – duty would decline from 14 percent to zero.
  • Skis classified under NCM 9506.11.00 – duty would be reduced from 20 percent to two percent.
