Brazil Proposes or Adopts Technical/Conformity Assessment Requirements for Various Products
Brazil’s National Institute of Technology, Normalisation and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) has taken the following actions in recent weeks of potential interest to Hong Kong and mainland Chinese exporters.
- Bicycle Tyres
INMETRO has approved new mandatory technical requirements for bicycle tyres for adult use, that is, tyres identified as having a diameter of 400 millimetres or greater. Imported and domestically-produced bicycle tyres will be required to comply with the requirements of INMETRO Directive 595/2018 by 7 December 2020, importers and domestic producers will not be able to sell non-compliant merchandise by 7 December 2021, and retailers and other parties will not be able to sell non-compliant merchandise by 7 December 2022.
INMETRO recently sought comments on a proposal (INMETRO Directive 503/2018) to amend and clarify in various ways the technical and conformity assessment requirements for toys of INMETRO Directive 563/2016.
- Motorcycle Components
INMETRO has adopted certain improvements to the technical requirements for transmission systems, crowns and pinions for motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, tricycles and quads.
- LPG Containers
INMETRO is accepting comments through 20 December on a proposal to amend in various ways the current conformity assessment requirements for portable liquified petroleum gas containers.
- Petroleum Thermometers
INMETRO has amended and clarified in various ways the technical requirements for certain petroleum thermometers made of glass.
INMETRO has amended and clarified in various ways the technical requirements for non-invasive sphygmomanometers used to measure blood pressure.
