Brazil Simplifies Import Requirements for Used Goods, Other Products
Brazilian authorities have simplified the process to analyse import requests for used materials as well as goods imported into the country with certain tax preferences. On the one hand, the results of the domestic production analysis for used machinery and equipment, which forms part of the initial stage of the assessment as to whether there are any like domestic goods, will now be valid until the eventual authorisation or cancellation of the qualification of the domestic producer of the goods in question in lieu of only 180 days. This change will expedite the processing of import applications because the domestic industry will be required to participate in fewer application proceedings.
Additionally, domestic producers and importers of used production lines may now submit electronically a number of documents that previously had to be submitted in paper form. Electronic submissions may be carried out through the Ministry of Economy’s electronic information system (SEI/ME).
