CBP Preparing to Implement New Requirements for Imports of Shrimp and Abalone
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued an update on the forthcoming implementation of the reporting, recordkeeping and permitting requirements of the Seafood Import Monitoring Program for shrimp and abalone species originating from both wild capture fisheries and aquaculture operations. The SIM took effect on 1 January 2018 for various other species of seafood but compliance for shrimp and abalone is not required until 31 December.
CBP states that from 9 October through 31 December SIM filings for shrimp and abalone imports will be voluntary. Entries received with affected HTS numbers will receive a warning but can still be accepted during this period, but after 31 December SIM entry filings of affected products without the required data will be rejected.
