CPSC Recalls Various Products Made in Mainland China
The CPSC has announced the following recalls of products made in mainland China.
Pottery Wheel Kits
Michaels Stores Procurement Inc., a subsidiary of The Michaels Companies Inc., has recalled some 263,000 pottery wheel kits because the battery compartment in these kits can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. This recall involves pottery wheel kits sold under the Michaels private brand Creatology®. The 16-piece kits include a battery-operated pottery wheel, two bags of clay, four moulding tools, six paints, two paint brushes and a sponge. They are blue and have SKU number 078859 and one of the following UPC codes printed on the barcode on the back of the box: 0400100663462, 0042409006603, 0042409006702, 0042409006757, 0069545670017 or 0886946767692. These products were sold exclusively at Michaels stores nationwide and on-line at www.michaels.com from August 2011 through February 2018.
Spin Art Kits
Michaels Stores Procurement Inc., a subsidiary of The Michaels Companies Inc., is recalling about 110,000 spin art kits because the battery compartment in these kits can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. This recall involves spin art kits sold under the Michaels private brand Creatology®. The 34-piece kits include one battery-operated spin art wheel with cover, paint, paint brushes and paper. They are blue and have SKU number 197861 and one of the following UPC codes printed on the barcode on the box: 042409093252, 042409930601, 042409093115, 042409093061, 042409931141, 069545093113 or 400100663486. These products were sold exclusively at Michaels stores nationwide and on-line at www.michaels.com from August 2011 through February 2018.
Excelligence Learning Corp., doing business as Discount School Supply, has issued a recall for about 2,200 crayon boxes because the red crayons in the multi-colour sets can contain glass, posing a laceration hazard to the user. This recall involves Colorations™ brand 200 extra-large crayon sets, including 25 red crayons. The extra-large crayons measure about 4.5 inches long and 0.5 inches in diameter. They were packaged in a purple and yellow box with the Colorations® logo printed on the box and sold exclusively on-line at DiscountSchoolSupply.com from June through October 2017.
Wireless Phone Chargers
Bluefin International has announced a recall of about 3,000 wireless phone chargers because they can overheat while in use, posing a burn hazard to consumers. This recall involves wireless smart phone chargers with model number AC16B printed on the bottom. The recalled chargers are circular and have clear edges and a white plastic centre with black trim. They measure about 3.9 inches in diameter and 0.4 inches tall. A black USB cable is included with the chargers, which were distributed in April 2018 as a free promotional item to attendees at the FICO World tradeshow in Miami Beach, Florida, as well as at other events and through the ad specialty channel.
Jané USA LLC has issued a recall for about 800 strollers because they violate the federal stroller and carriage standard. Specifically, an infant can pass through the opening between the stroller armrest and the seat bottom and his/her head and neck can become entrapped by the armrest, posing entrapment and strangulation hazards. This recall involves the US model of Jané Muum strollers. The recalled strollers have a black frame, a reclining seat or hammock that is reversible, and a hood. An insert is sold with the stroller for smaller babies. There is a basket for storage underneath the stroller seat. The recalled strollers were sold in dark grey and black (S85), light grey and black (S49), blue and black (S46), and green and black (S47). “Muum by Jané” is printed on the front bottom frame and “Muum” is printed on the side frame and on the handle. Additionally, “Jané” and “Muum,” “Jané USA LLC,” “Muum US 5399US/S85” or “S47,” “S49,” “S46” are printed on a label on the leg of the stroller. These products were sold at Albee Baby, Baby World, Kidsland, Toys R US, Dainty Baby, USA Baby stores and other stores nationwide, as well as on-line at Amazon.com and other websites, from July 2016 through August 2017.
IKEA Supply AG has recalled approximately 4,900 bicycles in the United States as well as about 200 bicycles in Canada because the bike belt can break, posing a fall hazard. This recall involves IKEA 26-inch and 28-inch SLADDA light grey bikes with an aluminium frame. IKEA is printed at the bottom of the seat tube near the crank and the article number is printed on a sticker at the bottom of the down tube. These bikes were sold exclusively at IKEA stores nationwide and on-line at www.ikea-usa.com from August 2016 through January 2018.
