Canada Carries Out Successful Trade Mission to Mainland China

Canadian federal ministers and premiers for the Atlantic provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador led a multi-sectoral trade and investment mission to mainland China from 8 to 13 November intended to support Atlantic Canadian businesses and organisations in the food and beverage, clean growth, education and tourism sectors that are looking to create new partnerships and build business-to-business relationships in mainland China, Canada’s second largest trading partner after the United States.

The mission visited Qingdao, Shanghai and Beijing and included trade shows, business-to-business meetings tailored to participants’ needs and opportunities in the mainland Chinese market, and networking events. The objectives of the mission included facilitating market access for Atlantic Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises that are export-ready and have an ability to do business in the mainland Chinese market, creating trade and investment opportunities for Atlantic Canadian businesses, promoting Canada as a prime tourism destination by leveraging the Canada-China Year of Tourism, and strengthening cultural and economic relationships between Canada and mainland China. Canadian authorities indicate that at least 11 confirmed agreements were signed during the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo and the China International Import Expo for a projected value of CA$321.6 million.
