Canada and Mainland China Agree to Strengthen Clean Energy Co-operation
Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr and mainland China’s Vice Minister of Science and Technology Zhigang Wang recently signed a joint declaration on clean technology co-operation that is expected to advance bi-lateral efforts to promote cleaner energy and better environmental outcomes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to a Canadian government press release, the joint declaration will promote shared objectives such as (i) sharing best practices to determine policy approaches to clean technology, (ii) addressing economic and social challenges through clean technology, (iii) exploring the possibility of clean energy technology demonstrations, and (iv) facilitating collaboration between small- and medium-sized enterprises. The two sides will develop innovative solutions to common challenges in a synergistic way, including by collaborating bi-laterally under the Mission Innovation initiative that was unveiled in November 2015 or under other multi-lateral collaborative mechanisms.
