Chile Cancels APEC Summit

Chilean President Sebastián Piñera announced on 30 October the suspension of 2019 APEC Forum meetings that were supposed to be held 16-17 November in Santiago, Chile. Similarly, Chile has cancelled the 2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conference (COP25) that was slated to be held in Santiago on 2-13 December. In a statement, Piñera said that instead of hosting these events the Chilean government will seek to prioritise the demands of Chilean citizens following weeks of violent rioting in the streets.
