Colombia Provides Duty-Free Treatment to Electric Cars

Colombia has established tariff-rate quotas of 1,500 units during calendar years 2017 through 2019, 2,300 units during calendar years 2020 through 2022, and 3,000 units during calendar years 2023 through 2027 for certain electric vehicles classified under HTSCO 8702.40.9010, 8702.40.9090, 8703.80.1000, 8703.80.9000, 8703.90.5100 and 8704.90.5900. In-quota imports will benefit from duty-free treatment while out-of-quota merchandise will be subject to regular rates of duty.

Additionally, imports of hybrid vehicles classified under HTSCO 8702.20.1000, 8702.30.1000, 8703.40.1000, 8703.40.9000, 8703.50.1000, 8703.50.9000, 8703.60.1000, 8703.60.9000, 8703.70.1000, 8703.70.9000, 8704.90.1100, 8704.90.2100, 8704.90.3100 and 8704.90.4100 will benefit from a reduced five percent duty under a separate but identical TRQ arrangement. Finally, imports of chargers classified under HTSCO 8504.40.9010 will be afforded unrestricted duty-free treatment through 2027.
