Colombian Official Voices Government’s Willingness to Self-initiate Antidumping Case on Asian Apparel
Colombian Vice-minister of Business Development Saúl Pineda said on 22 January that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism is willing to self-initiate an antidumping duty investigation on apparel from Asia. While Mr. Pineda did not specify a timeline or specifically mention mainland China, it is widely assumed that imports from the mainland would be targeted in any such investigation.
Vice-minister of Foreign Trade Laura Valdivieso added that it is important for companies affected by dumped imports to submit information demonstrating the existence of injury to a domestic industry as well as a causal relationship between dumping and the identified injury. Mr. Pineda also said that one of the priorities of President Iván Duque is to create the right conditions for the emergence of a more competitive and productive domestic fashion industry.
