Deadline for Input on Possible Changes to Appliance Standards Development Process Extended
The U.S. Department of Energy has extended from 16 February through 2 March its deadline for public input to help the agency identify potential modifications to its “Process Rule” for the development of energy efficiency standards for appliances. Through this effort, the DOE hopes to achieve meaningful burden reduction while continuing to fulfil its statutory obligations in the development of appliance standards. The DOE welcomes input on all aspects of the Process Rule that interested parties believe could be improved.
According to the DOE, the objectives of the Process Rule include providing for early input from stakeholders, increasing the predictability of the rulemaking timetable, increasing the use of outside technical expertise, eliminating problematic design options early in the process, fully considering non-regulatory approaches, conducting a thorough analysis of impacts, using transparent and robust analytical methods, articulating policies to guide selection of standards, and supporting efforts to build consensus on standards.
