Energy Standards May Eventually Be Adopted for New Dishwasher Class

The U.S. Department of Energy is seeking input by 16 September on a proposal to establish a new product class for dishwashers with a cycle time of the cycle recommended by the dishwasher manufacturer for daily, regular or typical use to completely wash and dry a full load of normally soiled dishes (i.e., the normal cycle time) of less than one hour. If this new product class is adopted, the agency will consider appropriate energy and water use limits for these products in a separate rulemaking. In addition, the DOE is proposing to make certain relatively minor changes to the dishwasher standards in 10 CFR 430.32(f).
