Mexico Adopts Certain Requirements for Mobile Terminal Equipment

Mexico has adopted new mandatory standards for mobile terminal equipment that can use the radio spectrum or can be connected to telecommunications networks. Specifically, the new standards (NOM-221-SCIF-2017) require the FM radio broadcast receiver functionality of the mobile terminal equipment to not be blocked and establish specific requirements for the International Mobile Equipment Identify (IMEI) number that such equipment must bear. Subject merchandise must comply with the provisions of Technical Disposition IFT-011-2017 – Part 1, and undergo appropriate testing to ensure compliance with that standard. These requirements will apply from 15 October.
