Mexico Amends Care Labelling Standards for Textiles and Apparel

Mexico recently updated its care labelling requirements for textile and apparel products by requiring such products to incorporate the care symbols of NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014 rather than those of NMX-A-240-INNTEX-2009. The new care symbol standard will apply from 15 October, which is 60 days from the date of publication of the applicable announcement in Mexico’s official journal, unless the Mexican government agrees to provide a longer transition period or exercises enforcement flexibility.

While the differences between the new and old standards are not specified in the notice issued by the Mexican government, the notice does state that the new standard – NMX-A-3758-INNTEX-2014 – is identical to the most recent ISO care labelling standard (ISO 3758:2012).
