Mexico Reinstates Tariff-Rate Quota on Beans

The Mexican government on 14 April announced the temporary reinstatement from 16 April through 30 November 2017 of the special tariff-rate quota that allows up to 100,000 metric tonnes of beans classified under HTSMX 0713.33.02, 0713.33.03 and 0713.33.99 to benefit from duty-free treatment in Mexico. Mexican authorities indicate that domestic bean production accounted for 88.92 percent of total domestic demand during 2012-2016 as well as 86.74 percent of total domestic demand in 2016. While domestic bean production grew by 12.65 percent in 2016, Mexican authorities consider that such increase is insufficient to meet apparent domestic demand in 2017.
