Mexico Unveils New Mandatory Standards for High Chairs, Water Heaters

Mexico has set new mandatory safety standards for high chairs for infants that will apply from 3 March 2019. The standards include provisions in the areas of product classification; general requirements; sharp edges, protrusions or tips; small parts; splinters; latching mechanisms; holes and openings; pinching, cutting and bruising; protective components; integrity of the removable support; performance of the frontal torso support or tray; static load; springs; stability test; restraint systems; structural integrity; lateral containment; tray disengaging mechanism; sampling; test methods; commercial information and instructions; and conformity assessment procedures.

Separately, new mandatory energy and safety standards, including thermal performance and gas saving specifications, have been established for solar water heaters. These requirements will enter into force on 26 December 2018.
