New Energy Efficiency Standards for AC Motors under Consideration in Mexico

Mexico is seeking input by 10 February on a proposal (PROY-NOM-033-ENER-2018) to establish new mandatory energy efficiency standards for alternating current motors cooled by air, with a nominal power of at least one watt but less than 180 watts. The proposal includes provisions related to AC motor classification, minimum energy efficiency, sampling, test methods and conformity assessment. The new standards would enter into force 120 days from the date of issuance of a final regulation in Mexico’s official journal.
