New Energy Test Procedures for Certain ACs and Heat Pumps under Consideration

The DOE has initiated a data collection process to consider whether to amend the current energy test procedures for single package vertical units. A 4 September deadline has been set for interested parties to submit input on this process.

The U.S. Department of Energy has initiated a data collection process to consider whether to amend the current energy test procedures for single package vertical air conditioners and single package vertical heat pumps, which are collectively referred to as single package vertical units. To inform interested parties and facilitate this process, the DOE has gathered data identifying several issues associated with the currently applicable test procedures on which it is interested in receiving comment. These issues mainly concern the incorporation by reference of the applicable industry standard, efficiency metrics, clarification of test methods, and any additional topics that may inform the DOE’s decisions in a future test procedure rulemaking, including methods to reduce regulatory burden while ensuring the accuracy of the procedures. Interested parties may submit input on this process by 4 September.
