Possible Changes to Microwave Oven Energy Test Procedures under Consideration
The U.S. Department of Energy has initiated a data collection process to consider whether to amend its energy test procedures for microwave ovens. To inform interested parties and facilitate this process, the agency has gathered data identifying several issues associated with the currently applicable test procedures on which it is interested in receiving comment. Relevant issues mainly concern the measurement of active mode, standby mode and off mode energy use, as well as an integrated annual energy use metric for microwave ovens. Also of interest are any additional topics that may inform the DOE’s decisions in a future energy test procedure rulemaking, including methods to reduce regulatory burden while ensuring the procedures’ accuracy. Interested parties may submit input no later than 20 February.
