Revisions to U.S. Grade Standards for Walnuts under Consideration
AMS is proposing to revise the U.S. grade standards for shelled walnuts and walnuts in the shell in order to include red coloured walnuts and remove the “unclassified” section. Grade standards are used as a common language among traders and serve as a means of measuring value in the marketing of agricultural products. AMS believes the changes will modernise the standard and meet growing consumer demand by providing greater marketing flexibility. Interested parties may submit input on this proposal by 24 January.
